They dont call it a rainforest for no reason

The rain seemed as if it was never ending. I didn’t realize what it actually meant to live in a rain forest until I arrived, there really is a lot of rain. I didn’t even bother counting the days that it was pouring. It was actually rather overwhelming at first how wet it actually does get around here in the winter.

Thankfully, that has changed the past two days and the sun has been shining. The natural fauna here is beautiful, the forest floor is generally covered in gorgeous green ferns, and the moss is prevalent. Many people I have come across do not realize that yes, there are rain forests in the United States. There are few, but they do exist.

The majority of streams and rivers I have seen flow with a beautiful green tint, as can be seen in some of the pictures I have previously posted and will include once again. Its pristine, and absolutely beautiful. I hope to eventually be able to obtain a kayak and float down some of these streams while taking photographs.

I have really been trying to get out into the forest and take pictures to upload onto www.redwooded.com. Unfortunately the clear days have been very few and far between. This is an ongoing project and it really hasn’t taken off to its full potential yet, so keep checking back! Regardless, here are a few pictures for perspective on how big these trees really are!

So the adventure in the forest begins

My experiences within the coastal redwood forests thus far have been rather short.  I am not an expert, nor a native to the area I currently live in.  However, I knew upon my first entrance into the redwood forests that it was an incredibly beautiful place that more people should have the opportunity to experience.  So I present to you, a depiction of living in and around the redwood forests of the northern California coast, from an individual who is just beginning the experience.

I had planned my journey out west shortly before I made the trip.  I knew the area I was moving was home to coast redwoods, but I never could have imagined how truly bold and magnificent they are until I saw the for myself.   Huge is not the word to be using, they’re bigger than huge.

Its almost unimaginable, that is if you have not been previously exposed to them, how big something can naturally grow to be.  Some of the trees in the area are older than some of today’s modern religions.  In fact, one coast redwood is taller than the statue of liberty!

This blog will be updated frequently with new pictures from local forests and anything else relating to living in a rain forest on the northern coast of California.  The following pictures, and the ones featured in this post are from “The Avenue Of The Giants” which is located in Humboldt County, California.

My apologies to anyone who attempts/attempted to check out any of the pages. Most of them do not have much information on them yet, check back soon! I would also love to feature anyone’s artwork/photography relating to redwood trees!
